In recent news, Boston will see its first benefit for CURE, the volunteer-based organization founded by mothers of children with epilepsy. On Friday, October 15, 2010, the first annual Boston Benefit for CURE will take place at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Massachusetts.

The guest speaker will be Pulitzer Prize-winning author and presidential historian Doris Kearns Goodwin. Dinner chairs include Anne Finucane, Mike Barnicle and Susan Axelrod. Recent News at Blue Star Families

Bloggers from around America recently got together in New York for the annual BlogHer convention. Blue Star Families also participated in the event. With the help of the generous contribution of 50 million dollars from the Vivian and Seymour Milstein family, the most advanced cardiac care is now available to patients at New York-Presbyterian/Columbia Medical Center. January 2010 ushered in a new chapter in the history of cardiac care when the Vivian and Seymour Milstein Family Heart Center opened its doors to patients and their families.

The gift bestowed on the Center is one of the most generous in the history of the hospital, and it allowed the hospital to build one of the most advanced cardiac care facilities in the United States, and the world. Featured at this unique health center are advanced diagnostic technology and treatments which are generally less invasive, more accurate, and allow patients to heal more quickly and with fewer complications.

State of the Heart: Cutting Edge Cardiac Care at Milstein Family Health Center

January, 2010 witnessed the dawning of a new level of cardiac care in the New York City metropolitan area with the opening of the Vivian and Seymour Milstein Family Heart Center. Connie Milstein has long been a supporter of improved health care through her involvement as a hospital trustee at New York-Presbyterian since the year 2000. Connie Milstein’s father, Seymour Milstein began his association with New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center in the 1950s. He served as chairman of the board for 7 years, from 1989 until 1996.

Today New York-Presbyterian can boast a state-of-the-art advanced care cardiac center in a six-floor, 142,000-square-foot building which was designed with the input and advice of teams of specialists in cardiac care alongside world class architects Pei Cobb Freed and da Silva.

Jefferson Hotel Renovations with Ogden CAP Properties and Connie Milstein

During this past year, Ogden CAP Properties with Principal and Co-Founder Connie Milstein worked tirelessly to renovated the Jefferson Hotel in Washington, D.C. The renovation included all 99 suites and guest rooms and all public spaces. Plume, one of the city's finest destination restaurants was also created and introduced onto the scene.

In addition, the renovations included a lounge with outdoor terrace for cigars and cognacs and intimate meeting spaces. Completely new to the Jefferson are three expansive specialty suites, an exclusive spa and a well-equipped fitness room.

New Epilepsy Research

The CURE website features a fascinating article about a recent study. This article explains that researchers found that deep brain stimulation reduces the frequency of partial epileptic seizures in patients who don’t respond well to medications. The study was conducted by Robert Fisher, MD, PhD of Stanford University and his colleagues.
